I need vet help for my dog, but nobody will let me pay their services off. My love dog is not in pain, but I am desperate for help from a vet who will let me work off or pay off their services please
I have a beautiful old spaniel, our 'love dog', who is extremely special to our family, and who we got many years ago from the SPCA in easier times. But these days, as a solo mum, I am now struggling to feed us all, let alone magic up money for vet care.
I have begged for help from our vet, and many others, but nobody including the SPCA will see my dog and let me pay off their services.
My dog is not in pain, but she has an issue that requires help, possibly minor surgery and it is causing us huge stress, and my children and I many tears over her every day.
Because she is an old girl, I just get told that if I have no money to surrender her to be put down (oh dear, more tears!) and our hearts are breaking. She is so happy and healthy, eating and drinking, full of energy and we don't want to give up on our love dog yet. I would never be so selfish as to let her suffer, and recently an animal welfare inspector agreed with me that she is happy and not in pain.
We are having a difficult time because of financial issues, now this is my last resort to avoid loosing my beautiful much loved little dog because of this too.
I am not asking for anything for free, I am asking for some leniency. I am so capable and can handle any office duties, cleaning cages - heck I can do anything to work off the cost - or I will set up an AP to pay off everything as best I can. I am trustworthy and honest, have references if needed - I am just beside myself, in desperate need of help for my dog and I will do/work/help/give anything to get it.
I hope my plea makes it somehow to someone who can help us, we so dearly love our dog, and we can't go on crying over her every day, trying to change dressings and being turned down everywhere because I don't have the money upfront.
Thank you for your time, and bless you for your consideration!

Hi, You could try the vet in Te Atatu Peninsula. They let a friend pay off her vet bills, but don't know if this is standard practice for them.
Thanks for the updates about Sophie.
Thank you for your time and advice :)

Hi everyone, wow thank you all for your kind thoughts and wishes! I'm not usually one to ask for help, so it's quite overwhelming how caring everyone is!
I found Great South Vets to be amazing, a whole team of lovely ladies, they were so efficient and busy, but also really caring and understanding too. Their price at $29 (vs. $53 at my local vet) meant that I could get in to see them, and a beautiful friend had funraised and paid for the treatment that was over and above this (heartwarming and humbling to say the least!) and looked after my children while I went. It was the hardest thing I've ever done, and thought they would advise that I put her down - but the vet said that she DID NOT NEED to be put down! (SO happy!). But that the tumours (most likely benign, but she has several that have ruptured and are exposed, and quite large) would require quite extensive surgery. The surgery would cost about $1000 and she would need liver and kidney testing first, and realistically, at her age there is a chance that she might not survive the surgery and recovery.
She is on a long term of antibiotics to stop the tumours getting infected, and deal with an infection already deep within one, and has a special wash to help. My decision now, is whether or not to risk the surgery... and need to consider price, risk and ultimately distress to my dog. I don't know what to do, but I wanted to update you all, lovely caring responders, that she is okay!! Not going to loose her yet! But I have lots of thinking to do, as the tumours are weeping, large and ugly wounds on my love dog..
Thank you all again! I am leaving the listing in case another vet could offer me an opinion regarding surgery and the risks, and maybe help with the testing to see whether she would survive it.. Bless ya all! xxx

Thank you again everyone :) And huge love and blessings back at you all! Sophie dog is doing well on the antibiotics, the dreadful smell from the tumours has gone and they are not weeping so much. I still have decisions to make, but I am comfortable that I am not being cruel keeping her with us and that I have some time to consider them.
She's been by my side through some tough times, and I'm not leaving hers until she lets me know that she's had enough!

Wow.... I have an offer/suggestion. At first this might seem a way out there, and, I am not into this anywhere else in my life, but there is an animal whisperer I have used twice for 2 animals and it really helped make some decisions similar to what you are going through. It is done remotely and I am happy to pay for the consult if you wish to go ahead.
If it doesn't hurt them or my family then I am very open to exploring ideas and options further. Let me know it you want to find out more. I am not related to this lady in any way, I saw her one morning years ago on Breakfast TV when I was so stuck about whereto go/what to do about my fluffy darling. The response from her you can take or leave it.
all the best :-)
Thank you so much Maggie005, for your kind offer! What a lovely idea, and I appreciate it a great deal. So far so good, the antibiotics have cleared up the tumours to an extent that we are able to hang in there. They are not worrying Sophie Spaniel and she is still lively, happy and pain free and so I don't have to make this decision quite yet. I also was just blessed with a job that works around children and has made life a little easier regarding options. I still can't afford surgery and doubt that I could put her through it the more that I think about it. Would you be so kind as to foward me this ladies details for the time that this decision weighs heavily on me?? Sending you many blessings! Regards, Tavia

Hi to you , your children & your beautiful dog.Like you I had a very sick puppy that needed expensive heart surgery costing up to thousands of dollars. She was a present from my father to his grandchildren .This is what I did.I took a photo of the puppy and made up some appeal posters which I put up in shopping centres ,notice boards where ever I was able to put one. Then I went to see a reporter from Wanganui Midweek which is the free paper that every household in our region has delivered each week. They put out an article and the response from the Wanganui Public was awesome.Further more I took the poster down to Massey Vet Clinic in Palmerston North where the surgery was going to take place. The surgeons donated the surgery time and vet students donated some money as well. Our heart puppy is now 7years old.All thanks to kind & generous people.Have posted a link to my facebook page .Hope it helps you.

Hi Dragonseeker. Sounds like you need to get more antibiotics as a first step. And then if you have the tests done to see whether your dog will be ok with surgery, that will help you make your decision about the next step.
We can fundraise to cover the antibiotics to start with, if you would like to do that.
Candice, Aucklander and Dreamdancer previously offered to help with raising funds, are they still able to do that? Can anyone else help with fundraising? You mentioned the surgery is $1000, but do you know the cost of the tests?
Best wishes,
