Looking for someone handy with a sewing machine...

... to help us make new covers for a small mattress

At first I thought of asking if someone could lend us a sewing machine for a few days, but it's been years since I did any sewing so probably wouldn't do a good job.

We have a foam mattress that we use for camping and we cut it in 3 pieces for easy storage. Unfortunately this involved cutting the cover it came with (the blue material in the pictures) which has now left some parts of the mattress exposed and it's starting to get damaged.

It is a double size mattress (135cm) and we use a king size duvet cover for protection (the orangey material), but ideally we'd like the 3 pieces to be covered individually, and connected with zips so they don't move about when we sleep on them.

Anyone in Tauranga up to the task?

We would be happy to do something in return for you, we have various valuable skills that might come in handy... i.e. need help with a website? your facebook account? how about your garden or moving some furniture? (I have a strong husband!)

I am handy with a sewing machine and I was willing to do this job for you but two things are against it. I live too far away and I don't have easy access to the pieces of foam to try the new covers on in case any adjustments needed to be made.

They haven't invented the flying seamstress yet

I had done the same thing and went to an op shop and bought a couple of duvet covers. You may need to get one of the edges sowen but it means you can take the covers off, cause they have domes at one end, and wash the covers when you need to.

    Hope this idea helps.

If you want to go ahead with this idea I would be more than happy to help sew the edge up if you can pin it for me cause I live in Akld but come down to Tauranga every month or so.

Thank you ladies for your comments and offers of help. For some reason your replies didn't make it to my inbox (wonder if they went into spam), so apologies for the delay. We have put it inside a super king duvet cover for now, until we can find someone local who can help. :)

I appreciate your offer Jenza but I probably wouldn't do a good job of pinning it and would end up wasting your time and mine! No worries.
